Yusmarg is what Gulmarg was before the crowds — an alpine meadow of pine and fir on the bank of the Doodganga river, below the Sunset and Trattekoot peaks of the Pir Panjal. It is under two hours from Srinagar through the town of Charari Sharief.

About Yusmarg
The meadow sits at 2,396 metres. Most of a day here is walking: a 4 km trail leads to Nilnag, a small lake known for its blue water, and a longer 10 km trek reaches the Sang-e-Safed valley, where the lake stays largely frozen even in summer.
Ponies are available for the trails, the river is fished for trout, and in winter the slopes see some skiing. It is a place for a slow day rather than a checklist.

Both are Budgam meadows under two hours from Srinagar. Yusmarg has the lake walk and pine forest; Doodhpathri is the wider, more open meadow with the streams. If you have two spare days, do both.
