Lolab is a valley within the valley — an oval of green about 26 km long and 5 km wide in the north of Kupwara district, walled by forests of deodar and pine. It is known as the fruit bowl of Jammu and Kashmir: apple, cherry, peach, apricot and walnut all grow here.

About Lolab Valley
The valley lies at 1,590 metres, lower and gentler than the alpine meadows, and is made up of three smaller valleys — Kalaroos, Potnai and Brunai. The Lahwal river runs through it from east to west.
The best-known spot is the caves at Kalaroos. There are old springs across the valley, among them Lavnag and Gauri, and the resting place of the saint Kashyap Reshi about 1 km from Lalpora. There are a few tourist huts and many camping sites.
The drive from Srinagar goes through Sopore and Kupwara, about 114 km. A new road from Bandipora over the Nagmarg meadows is under construction and will shorten it.
