Naranag is a village of meadows and a cluster of stone temples facing each other about 200 metres apart, built in the 8th century under Lalitaditya and dedicated to Shiva. It stands on the Wangath river, a side stream of the Sindh, about 16 km off the Sonamarg road at Kangan.

About Naranag
The temple complex is one of the important archaeological sites in the country, now walled to protect it. Each year the pilgrimage to Gangabal lake begins with prayers here.
For walkers it is the base camp for Mount Haramukh (5,142 m), Gangabal lake and the Satsar lakes, and the start of the longer route to Gadsar, Vishansar and Krishansar — five to seven days on foot. There is a tourism hut in the village.
One thing to know before you go: Naranag has no mobile signal. Tell whoever needs to know that you will be out of reach for the day.
