Tosamaidan is a pasture on a scale that is hard to picture until you stand in it — about three miles long and a mile and a half wide, walled by deodars at the foot of the Pir Panjal. In summer the Gujjar herders camp across it with their sheep. It lies west of Doodhpathri, in the Khag area of Budgam.

About Tosamaidan
The meadow is the start of one of the old routes over the Pir Panjal into Poonch — a road that Mahmud of Ghazni tried and failed to use to enter Kashmir a thousand years ago. From the pasture the ground rises gently towards the passes at the top of the range, and the streams that start there form the Sukhnag river.
You reach it from Khag through the villages of Habber, Drang, Sitaharan and Zakhora, about 25 km. Doodhpathri is close by, so the two are often planned together.
