Aharbal is a waterfall first and a hill station second. The Veshaw river, on its way to the Jhelum, drops about 25 metres and then another 7 through a narrow granite gorge, with enough force that people call it the Niagara of Kashmir. Around it is an alpine valley of pine and fir in the Pir Panjal.

About Aharbal
The falls sit at 2,266 metres in the Noorabad area of Kulgam district, in the south-west of the valley. The terraces by the water are fenced, but the rock is wet and care is needed near the edge.
Beyond the falls there are forest walks and viewpoints over the Pir Panjal, and about 2 km along the Kunghwatan route is the oldest known fossil site in Jammu and Kashmir. The development authority has built tourist huts and a cafeteria.
The drive from Srinagar runs through Pulwama and Shopian, about 75 km, and Aharbal is only 8 km off the Mughal Road.
